Unity Church Long Beach, embracing the goal of being,
“In The Community For The Community”
has several community outreach programs, assisting those in need in our community, a few of our programs include:
Unity Church Long Beach has a monthly Clothing Bank Program, where those in need are able to select items of clothing from our inventory of gently used donated items. This program aims to serve a variety of members of the community. Those who may need an outfit for an upcoming job interview will find items appropriate for such an event; those who may need to obtain clothing items to wear for a job will find appropriate items. We also serve the unhoused community, providing clean, gently used items. Our Clothing bank inventory is 100% donation-based. We are always grateful for donations of gently used clothing items, as this allows us to continue to serve the community. Our Clothing Bank events are 100% volunteer staffed; we are always grateful for volunteers to assist in sorting through donated items, help those we service select clothing for their needs, and other activities necessary to continue to service those in need in the community.
Unity Church Long Beach has a monthly program where we are able to provide those in need with a sack lunch, filled with nutritious, non-perishable, stable food items to hold them through until a full meal can be obtained. Unity Church Long Beach provides the financial resources to purchase these items through generous donations from community members and church leadership. Fundraising for the purchase of these food items is ongoing, and contributions are always appreciated.
Unity Church Long Beach works with a member attorney and a volunteer notary public to assist those in the community who need to obtain their California and some other state-based identification cards and/or a state birth certificate at no cost. Many programs to assist those in need cannot be accessed without appropriate identification, this program has proven to provide a service which is a bridge to greater independence for those in the community in need of shelter, housing, medical and a variety of social services
Unity Church Long Beach, in association with other community member partners, hosts an annual Toy Drive event, where attendees bring an unwrapped toy, while engaging in a community-centered event, which not only provides for an incredible amount of toys for children, but provides a platform bringing community awareness to the ongoing challenges HIV/AIDS continues to impose on our world. The collected toys are provided to the Case Care Managers and Social Workers at the C.A.R.E. Program, conducted through St. Mary’s Medical Center, in Long Beach, California. The collected items are then distributed to children and families in need.
